FCRA 2.0 portal & e-OCI card launched by Home Minister

India's Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the FCRA 2.0 portal along with the e-OCI Card services, thereby advancing PM Modi's vision of Minimum Government, Maximum governance. The FCRA 2.0 portal main objective is to offer organization that receive foreign contribution a more user-friendly experience, minimizing paperwork and conserving time through the digitilization of compliance procedures. Subsequently, it will act as an extra safeguard for our national interests by enhancing the government's regulatory supervision of foreign contributions.

Reason behind the launch of FCRA (Foreign Contribution (Regulation)Act, 2010)

Portal has been developed to simplify compliance under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation)Act and to strengthen the monitoring and enforcement mechanism. 

Prior to 2014, FCRA system was entangled in files and was beyond any monitoring, after the Modi government came to power, the FCRA system, which was struck in cumbersome procedures, has been strengthened 

While keeping the view of the increasing number of applications and flow of donations, reducing paperwork and maintaining proper monitoring of foreign contribution is very important for the country's security. 

FCRA 2.0 Portal will reduce paperwork, speed up processing of applications, and ensure effective real-time monitoring of foreign contributions

The requirement to submit documents physically will also be eliminated 

Due to FCRA Law, monitoring on foreign contribution coming with wrong intentions will increase. 

Facts About Electronic Overseas Citizen of India (e-OCI) Card of India. 

Electronic Overseas Citizen of India (e-OCI) Card is a major citizen-centric initiative aimed at transforming OCI Services for the global Indian diaspora through a fully digital system. 

This new system, applicants can complete the entire process online-from submitting the application and uploading supporting documents to downloading the digitally generated card approval. 

Existing cardholders can also obtain their e-OCI Card digitally in most cases without needing a fresh application or physical verification. 

The new arrangement, the requirement to re-issue the OCI booklet upon receiving a new passport after the age of 20 years has been eliminated.

Cardholders will need to update their passport-related details online whenever a new passport is issued.
