West Bengal: BJP Marks 100 Days with Statewide

Suvendu Adhikari, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, is not going to leave any stone to make a history of Bengal. He has been active among people, from running Janta Darbar to providing free travel bus service for women; the CM has gained massive public support.  Recently,in the virtual Bhumi Pujan ceremony, he talked about five expansion projects of Gardern Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) and Yantra India Limited (YIL). Additionally, in the occasion of the completion of the first 100 days of the BJP government in West Bengal,  press conferences are being organized in every district across the state. During these press conferences, BJP highlighted the work undertaken in the first 100 days of the government, important decisions taken across various sectors, and several welfare schemes initiated for the benefit of the people.

Within its first 100 days, the BJP government has taken several important steps here are list:

New Momentum in Industry and Investment

Within the first 100 days of the government, investment proposals worth approximately ₹54,000 crore have been received. To attract investment, initiatives have been undertaken to establish a ₹5,000 crore Investment Promotion Framework, Single Window Clearance for investments exceeding ₹100 crore, and a ₹100 crore Startup Fund to encourage young entrepreneurs.

Amul’s large dairy project in Sankrail, Howrah, investment by Lux Cozi in Dankuni, and Shyam Steel’s proposed investment of approximately ₹10,000 crore are creating new opportunities for industry and employment in the state.

Good Governance and Strict Action Against Corruption

Meanwhile, the goal of the BJP government strategy of keeping the government and the party apart is to rid the state of partisan and political meddling in governance. 

Separate toll-free helplines have been launched against cut-money, syndicate activities, illegal toll collection and illegal liquor businesses.

Along with strict action against perpetrators in genuine cases, the government has also adopted a policy of not tolerating attempts to harass anyone through false complaints.

Women’s Safety and Security

To strengthen women’s safety, Durga Suraksha Squads and Pink Patrols have been deployed for patrolling on the streets. Initiatives have been undertaken to establish a Cyber Help Desk in every police station, women’s police stations in every sub-division, and women’s assistance centres in every police station.

Border Security

To further strengthen border security, more than 1,000 acres of land have been handed over to the BSF.

Major Initiatives in the Health Sector

Through the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme, an initiative has been undertaken to provide free health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh.

A plan has been undertaken to establish a state-of-the-art 2,000-bed hospital in New Town, of which 1,000 beds will be reserved for economically weaker sections.

Plans have also been undertaken for AIIMS and a state-of-the-art cancer hospital in North Bengal, modern government hospitals in the Sundarbans and Jangalmahal, and an AYUSH hospital in North Bengal modelled on the lines of AIIMS.

The daily allocation for patients’ food in government hospitals has been increased from ₹56 to ₹110.

Women and Social Security

Under the Annapurna Yojana, eligible women have been provided with financial assistance of ₹3,000 per month.

Monthly allowances for senior citizens, widows and persons with disabilities have been increased by ₹500.

Under the Awas Yojana, more than 10 lakh beneficiaries have been provided financial assistance of ₹60,000 per instalment.

Employment

The process of providing 1 lakh government jobs in the coming year has been announced. 33% reservation for women in government jobs is an important step in this direction.

At the same time, the recruitment process for more than 25,000 vacancies across various government departments through the WBPSC is set to begin.

Education and Welfare of Students

An initiative has been undertaken to provide ₹296 crore in financial assistance for improving the infrastructure of government schools offering education in Bengali medium.

Steps have been taken to increase the allocation for mid-day meals and improve the quality of food. Sanitary napkin vending machines are being installed in government schools, with measures being taken to safeguard the health of more than 10 lakh girl students.

An initiative has been undertaken to make approximately 35,000 books from libraries across the state available online. Steps have also been taken to increase the use of the Bengali language in government work.

Environment and Afforestation

Through the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ programme, more than 2 crore trees have been planted across the state.

Infrastructure and Connectivity

Initiatives have been undertaken to establish new airports in Purulia, Balurghat and Malda, along with a second greenfield airport in Kalyani.

Public Welfare Initiatives

The ‘Maa Aahar’ canteens are providing fish and rice to the common people at affordable prices.

Through the work undertaken during the first 100 days, priority has been given to development, employment, investment, women’s safety, healthcare, education and social security.

The West Bengal BJP stated, “The sons and daughters of Bengal will no longer have to travel to other states in search of employment — the goal of the BJP government is to create an environment of industry, investment and employment within Bengal itself.”

The first 100 days of the BJP government are being viewed not merely as a period of time, but as the beginning of a transformation in the administrative and developmental landscape of West Bengal. The government is moving forward with the objective of expanding and strengthening these initiatives in the days ahead.
