West Bengal: BJP Tapas Roy Clarifies Govt Stand on Electoral Rolls
The BJP veteran leader Tapas Roy holds a press conference and talks about the most crucial issues. The press conference was held at the BJP state office in Salt lake city, Kolkata.

While talking about the restoration of names in the electoral roll, he stated that a total of 38.10 lakh applications have been received, but only 82,782 applications have been disposed of so far. Of these, the names of 75,443 people have been restored to the electoral roll. Compared to the total 27.28 lakh voters identified as having been excluded after the SIR, this number is only 2.77 percent. He said that when more than 37 lakh applications are still pending, presenting the number of disposed applications as the overall picture and claiming that 91 percent of names have been restored is completely unjustified and misleading. He urged the media to publish reports on an important issue like the electoral roll strictly on the basis of facts and actual statistics.
Furthermore, the Industry Minister said that after overcoming years of stagnation, an environment conducive to new industrialisation is being created in West Bengal. Several important steps have been taken by the government to make the Industrial Policy, Land Bank, Land Policy, Incentive Schemes and Single Window system effective. He also stated that policy formulation and implementation in the industrial sector are being taken forward through various GoM meetings.
"There is already considerable interest among the international industrial community regarding the investment potential of West Bengal. Industrialists and diplomatic representatives from the United States, Dubai, England, Ireland, Australia, Germany, Singapore and Japan—including Mitsubishi—have expressed interest in investing in the state. He said that the government has set the goal of developing a strong industrial infrastructure in West Bengal, with a focus on semiconductor hubs, data centres, information technology and modern manufacturing industries. Through this, the government is working to create large-scale employment opportunities and restore West Bengal’s lost industrial glory," said Tapas Roy.
On the issue of extortion and syndicate activities, Shri Tapas Roy strongly reiterated the government’s ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy. He stated that the government will take strict action against any form of illegal extortion and syndicate activities in the interest of the common people and business community. He also said that individuals who were involved in such activities in the past are being kept under surveillance. He made it clear that anyone found engaging in illegal activities in violation of the law will face stringent legal action, irrespective of political identity or position.
On national unity and recent developments, Shri Roy strongly condemned the incident involving anti-national slogans at Jadavpur University. He said that ‘Vande Mataram’ is deeply connected with the sentiments and national consciousness of crores of Indians. He also made it clear that no attempt against national unity or the sovereignty of the country will be tolerated.
Regarding incidents of obstruction in the functioning of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and the police, the Industry Minister said that constitutional and administrative institutions will carry out their lawful responsibilities. He stated that the administration has the right to take necessary legal action, including arrest, against those who obstruct such lawful duties. He made it clear that the government will make no compromise when it comes to maintaining law and order.
Speaking about social harmony and Bengal’s traditions, Shri Roy stated that initiatives have been undertaken to further strengthen an environment of social harmony while respecting the traditions and festivals of people belonging to all communities. With this objective, Raksha Bandhan celebrations are being organised with dignity at more than 4,000 locations across the state, he said.
The Industry Minister also expressed concern over the recent natural disaster in Nepal. Expressing deep sympathy for the missing and affected people, he prayed for their early and safe return.
At the press conference, Shri Tapas Roy broadly clarified that the government is giving the highest priority to creating new industrial investment and employment opportunities, maintaining law and order, taking strict action against extortion and syndicate activities, and protecting social harmony and national unity
