Nitin Nabin Arrives In Kolkata For Organisational Visit
Bharatiya Janata Party National President Shri Nitin Nabin arrived in Kolkata on a two-day organisational visit to West Bengal. After landing at Kolkata Airport in the morning, he was warmly welcomed by the state leadership. Chief Minister Shri Suvendu Adhikari and State President Shri Samik Bhattacharya were present along with party functionaries and office-bearers to extend the welcome.
At the beginning of his visit, Shri Nitin Nabin joined party workers and members of the public at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town to listen to the 138th episode of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s popular radio programme, Mann Ki Baat. In this episode, the Prime Minister recalled the valour of the Indian Armed Forces on the 10th anniversary of the historic 2016 surgical strikes. He also spoke about India’s cultural heritage, environmental conservation, the need to make the youth free from addiction, and the participation of every citizen in the Census as an important national responsibility. The programme’s role in highlighting collective efforts by ordinary citizens and positive social change was also discussed.
Thereafter, a mega organisational meeting was held in the presence of state office-bearers, departmental convenors, Morcha presidents, Members of Parliament, district in-charges, district presidents and heads of various cells. Shri Nitin Nabin stated that, inspired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s 25 years of successful leadership, the party is further strengthening its resolve to serve the people through the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. He said that party workers are continuously working towards restoring the glory of Sonar Bangla.
In the afternoon, the BJP National President held a high-level meeting with the Council of Ministers of the West Bengal Government at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre.
After a series of organisational and government-level meetings throughout the day, State President Shri Samik Bhattacharya addressed the media and outlined the key points discussed during the meetings.
Shri Samik Bhattacharya said: “BJP National President Shri Nitin Nabin has come to West Bengal on a two-day visit. The purpose of this visit is to coordinate and exchange views with all state office-bearers, Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly and ministers. After a prolonged movement, the Bharatiya Janata Party has been able to form the government in West Bengal.
“In the 1952 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Jana Sangh won two seats from West Bengal—Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee from Calcutta South-East and Shri Durgacharan Banerjee from Jhargram—while the party won a total of three seats across the country. At the same time, nine party legislators were elected to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
“Following the mysterious death of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the then Congress government in the state advised Members of Parliament and Members of the Legislative Assembly not to undertake any programme in this regard.
“During the Left Front regime in West Bengal, many BJP workers were killed, and during the Trinamool Congress government, this number has reached 334. Many women party workers have been subjected to rape and suffered severe atrocities. It is on the basis of these sacrifices that the BJP has today been able to establish a government in West Bengal.
“The meeting primarily discussed the welfare schemes announced through the Sankalp Patra, the achievements of the party and the steps that are still required to complete the remaining work. The discussion was held in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, concerned persons and Hon’ble National President Shri Nitin Nabin.
“Shri Nitin Nabin clearly stated how ministers should perform their respective roles and that the party should not interfere in the functioning of the Council of Ministers. He also reminded us of the administrative practices and traditions followed by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in various states across the country.
“He emphasised that the West Bengal Government should function in the same manner, maintaining the culture and traditions followed by BJP governments in different states and the system established under the leadership of our Prime Minister and one of the world’s most prominent political figures, Shri Narendra Damodardas Modi. There should be proper coordination between the government and the party.
“No party worker should, under any circumstances, interfere in the functioning of the government. No unnecessary inconvenience or pressure should be created for any minister. At the same time, the party should remain informed about the functioning and direction of the ministers and the government. The meeting discussed this coordination in detail.»
“We also discussed the commitments made in our manifesto, the extent to which they have been fulfilled and the timeframe within which the remaining commitments will be fulfilled. Discussions were also held on the functioning of the government, development, the law-and-order situation in West Bengal and the concerns being expressed across the country regarding border security."
“The demographic changes taking place in West Bengal were also discussed. We reviewed the extent of our cooperation with the BSF and discussed railway and other government projects that had remained stalled due to issues related to land acquisition.
“Shri Nitin Nabin presented a clear roadmap for achieving the identified objectives. A similar review meeting will be held again after six months.”
As per the subsequent schedule, the National President held discussions with the State Core Group of the party at a hotel in Kolkata in the evening.
