West Bengal: Food Safety Department conducted a raid on a laddu factory

A surprise search by the Food Safety Department at Abhishek Sweets, a laddu factory on Netaji Subhash Path Road in Ward No. 8 of Titagarh, failed miserably.

Key points:- 
  • Food Safety Department, the Enforcement Department, the Titagarh Police Station, and the Titagarh Municipality conducted a joint search. 
  • The search revealed the factory, spanning approximately 1,100 square feet, was in a very poor condition. In this semi-dark factory, laddus were made in extremely unsanitary conditions and left unattended. 
  • The color used in the laddus was highly toxic. 
  • When Food Safety Department officials tried to investigate the dangerous color being used in the laddus, they were stunned. 
  • The Food Safety Department has expressed concern that the chemical color obtained in the laddus is very harmful for the body.
  • the Food Safety Department confiscated about ten thousand laddus from the Abhishek Swiss Laddoo factory, declaring them dangerous.
  •  according to sources from the operations team, the factory is being sealed due to unsanitary conditions and the use of dangerous colors in the edible laddus
  • Apart from the sweet shop in Titagarh, the Food Safety Department also raided Baduria, located in North 24 Parganas. 
  • It has been stated that rotten chicken and mutton was recovered from a well known restaurant
  • Further investigation still continues
