BJP Announces Development-Focused Policies for Bengal

Today, State BJP Chief Spokesperson Shri Debjit Sarkar addressed a press conference at the State BJP office in Salt Lake. He welcomed several recently announced development-oriented and people-centric policy decisions in West Bengal. He said that these decisions could usher in a new era for the state’s rural economy, infrastructure development, agriculture, employment, and social security.

Debjit Sarkar stated that among the various initiatives announced over the past few days, particularly significant are 19 major infrastructure projects worth more than ₹82,000 crore. These include infrastructure projects related to roads, railways, metro rail, petroleum and natural gas, as well as initiatives to expedite the implementation of several long-pending projects. He added that the proposal to constitute a state-level ‘Project Monitoring Group’ to ensure the timely progress of these projects is also highly significant.

Welcoming the Centre’s approval of ₹8,508 crore and the total allocation of ₹12,864 crore for rural development, he said that projects such as rural roads, irrigation systems, renovation of ponds, and construction of schools and Anganwadi centres would further strengthen the rural economy and create new employment opportunities.

He described the interim approval for 1 lakh new rural houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana as an important step for the common people. He said that these benefits must reach eligible beneficiaries with complete transparency, and that there should be no recurrence of the irregularities and allegations of financial transactions that had previously surfaced in connection with the allocation of houses.

He termed the ₹295 crore assistance for women’s Self-Help Groups, the establishment of a Clean Plant Centre in Malda for the agriculture sector, the plan to develop West Bengal as the ‘Seed Hub’ of eastern India, and initiatives to promote natural and digital farming as timely measures.

He also expressed hope that the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, expansion of the Kisan Credit Card scheme, and agriculture-based value-addition initiatives would play an important role in enhancing farmers’ financial security and productivity.

Responding to various questions from the media, Shri Sarkar said, “It is the responsibility of all political parties to uphold the dignity of democratic institutions. Decorum and accountability must be maintained in every sphere of public life, from the Legislative Assembly to society at large. At the same time, in the case of any allegation of corruption, the law will take its own course and the truth will certainly come to light.”

He further said, “The decision to constitute the Seventh Pay Commission in the interest of State Government employees is a positive step. We believe that this will help improve the standard of living of employees as well as enhance administrative efficiency.”

In conclusion, Shri Debjit Sarkar assured constructive cooperation with all positive initiatives undertaken for the overall development and welfare of the people of West Bengal. He said, “The people of West Bengal have long aspired for development, transparency, and good governance. We welcome every effective step aimed at fulfilling those aspirations.”
