"Living Roots Originals," a tribal songwriting and creator rights initiative, was introduced by the Indian Ministry of Tribal Affairs in  partnership with the Indian Performing Right Society (IPRS) with the goal of bolstering the creative and economic ecosystem for tribal artists nationwide.  However, the initiative seeks to recognise, protect and promote original musical works created by tribal communities through mentorship, copyright ownership, professional music production and access to royalty-based income opportunities. The inaugural songwriting residency was held in Kolkata from 3–7 August 2026, bringing together 25 artists from eight tribal communities across five states.
