RSS Sthapna Diwas Celebrated on Vijayadashami
The Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh was established on September 27, 1925, through the initiative of Sr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar in Nagpur, Maharashtra.
Today, on 20 October 2026, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is commemorating its 101st Foundation Day (Sthapana Divas) and its annual Vijayadashami celebrations. The RSS Foundation Day (Sthapna Diwas) is observed annually on the sacred Hindu occasion of Vijayadashami (Dussehra), which follows the lunar calendar rather than adhering to a fixed calendar date.
The Diwas is officially celebrated every year on Vijayadashami, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. These celebrations involve Shahtra Puja (Worship of weapons/instruments of protection), community gatherings (Shakhas), and pledges dedicated to national service and social unity.
Addressing the Vijayadashami Utsav at the Reshimbagh Ground in Nagpur, Dr. Mohan Bhagwat shared his vision and said, "We need to create a Bharat that offers a comprehensive development pathway rooted in the timeless wisdom of Dharma, while simultaneously presenting the world with a fresh approach to achieving happiness and peace. Drawing inspiration from our cherished national values, we must pioneer a distinctive development model that can guide the entire world forward. Every action we undertake must reflect outstanding quality and contribute meaningfully to our nation's security, unity, and social fairness, advancement, and honor."
RSS chief further added, "There's growing fascination with India emerging globally. Even though many nations enjoy material wealth, they are experiencing unease because their worldview lacks depth- it's built on disconnection from tradition, self-centeredness, and endless consumption."
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, discovered the address delivered by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat to be highly inspiring. He subsequently posted on X that Dr. Mohan Bhagwat had comprehensively addressed an extensive array of subjects, including progress and social unity, the need for self-reliance, and strengthening the character of society. On RSS Sthapana Divas, PM Modi further wrote, "The RSS has completed a remarkable century of service, nation-building, and social harmony. Countless Swayamsevaks have worked for society with a deep sense of duty and a nation-first spirit.
